Whenever I hear that phrase “one thing,” my mind immediately flashes back to the movie “City Slickers.” Billy Crystal’s character is at a dude ranch on vacation with two of his best friends. He is trying to find out what is missing in his life. He is on a cattle drive with Curly talking about life. Curly says the secret of life is one thing . . . stick to that one thing and everything else doesn’t matter.
I was reading the Psalms last night and the phrase “one thing” appeared there.
Psalm 27:4: “One thing I ask of the LORD, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to seek him in his temple.”
Is that your one thing? Is that mine? Out of all the “things” we chase after, is our one thing to seek God, to live with Him daily? Maybe Curly was on the right track after all.
