This is my first post in the new year. Guess that really sounds more exciting than what it is, but everyone is still in the “new” of the new year.
Over the holiday break we went to watch the new Narnia movie, “Voyage of the Dawn Treader.” I read all the Chronicles of Narnia books back in college, but all the details of the stories have pretty much faded from my memory.
A powerful part of the movie was the green mist that those on the Dawn Treader had to fight against. Before they headed toward the evil island to find the seventh sword, they were warned that they would face temptations and that they would need to be strong.
If you haven’t seen the movie and plan to, I don’t want to give a lot away, but basically the green mist told lies to the characters about who they were and what they were able to do. I thought it was a great representation of the battle that followers of Jesus fight as we deal with the lies of the enemy.
A couple of the characters had to contend with the lie that as they were, they weren’t enough. As they realized the truth and fought against the lie, the green mist faded away.
Our enemy is called the father of lies and he works in the same way – lying to us about who God says we are. Just like those on the Dawn Treader, we need to stand firm against those lies and hear God’s Truth about who He says we are.
