House Build Group Leaves Next Week

1mission_4The time of departure is getting closer. We are now counting down days, not weeks! Kind of hard to believe that at this time next week, we will be in Mexico working on a home for a family. Pretty exciting!

Our group has been making final preparations, talking about final details and insuring all paperwork is done. As I mentioned in a previous post, we have received great support from our church family and community. Over the past 9 weeks, we have provided a concession stand for a Karate Tournament and our Upward Basketball Program. After running the final numbers, we raised just over $2400! That’s pretty exciting! Thanks again to all those who supported us.

Please be in prayer for our group and for the family we will serve. If you are from the Wilmington area (or even if you aren’t), please be in prayer for our team. Here is a list of our team members: Scott, Leyah and Avery Bradshaw; Susi Bradshaw; Bob, Dianna & Bethany Brausch; Ken Driscoll; Lauren Ellis; Andrew Garrett; John Luttrell; JB Smith; Jeff Walls; Tony Brackemyre.

Two More Ways to Support Spring Break House Build Trip

1mission_4We are about halfway into our Upward Basketball season where we have been offering concessions to raise money for our Spring Break House Build Trip. Our church family has been very generous in providing items that we use for our concessions. We have donations of Gatorade, cans of soda, chips, candy bars, monetary donations and even pizza that we sold by the slice. It has been a great start to our fundraising efforts.

While we have five more Saturdays of Upward to go, there are two other ways that people can support our Mexico Team.
green bucket

For those in the Wilmington area: Sunday, March 6th will be Green Bucket Sunday.

We have used the green buckets in the past and we will use them the first Sunday in March. The green buckets will be located at the doors exiting our Ministry Center and any money that is placed in the buckets will go toward the Mexico trip.  This is a simple way to allow people to give toward the trip in a way that goes above what they give to the church.

Last year we used the green buckets to help reach our goal of $4,000 to send to 1MISSION to build a home for a family in Mexico. It allowed our who church family to participate, no matter the size of the gift.

For those in or out of the Wilmington area:  Give Online.

A number of months ago our church family was given the opportunity to give online.  So many of the things we do now, including paying bills, is done online.  You can now give to the overall work of WCC or specifically to the Mexico trip through our Online Giving Page.  If you want to give specifically toward the House Build Trip, you can select that in the drop down menu.

Online giving

There are so many great mission organizations and projects being done throughout the world. We are excited about our partnership with 1MISSION and appreciate all the support from our church family and friends. Thanks to all those who are giving toward the trip and praying for our team.

Support Spring Break House Build Trip

assets-sharable-1mission_7We are looking forward to our Spring Break House Build Trip to Rocky Point, Mexico with 1MISSION. Currently we have twelve people committed to be a part of building a home for a family and are even looking to add a few more to our group before the end of January. The trip will take place March 28 – April 2.

To help raise the necessary funds for the trip, we will be providing a concession stand at a Karate Tournament hosted at WCC and during this season’s Upward Basketball games at the church.

You can support this trip by donating needed items for us to serve.  Anything that is donated will help defray the cost of the participants on our trip.

Here is a list of items that would assist our concessions:

12 ounce cans of soda (Pepsi, Coke, Diet Pepsi, Diet Coke, Dr. Pepper, Sprite, etc.)

16.9 ounce bottles of water

All-Star size (12 oz) bottles of Gatorade

Homemade or Store Bought Cookies

Snack Size (1 ounce) bags of chips (Potato Chips, Doritos, Fritos, Cheetos, etc)

Little Debbie Snack Cakes

Candy Bars (Snickers, Baby Ruth, Milky Way, etc.)

Ring Pops, Sour Punch Straws and other individually wrapped candies

Whatever items are donated will be helpful to our group as we raise funds for the trip.  Currently, the cost per person is estimated at $1,200 which includes our airfare, vehicle rental and cost for housing and meals.

1MISSION Project About to Launch

1mission IMPACTOur IMPACT students are partnering with 1MISSION to raise money to build a home for a family in Mexico. I had a phone conversation yesterday with a representative from 1MISSION and our campaign will launch in the near future.

We had the opportunity to kick off our fundraising last Saturday at a karate tournament hosted at our church. In just one day, we were able to raise $500. This weekend we start offering concessions for our Upward basketball games.  While I don’t envision we will raise all that we need through our concessions, it should give us a great boost toward our goal.

We are looking to get the word out to our friends and church family and invite a lot of people to play a small part in reaching our goal.  1MISSION encourages students to give up birthdays, to run a race or create a project to help raise funds for family in needs.

We have a new link to our campaign page – IMPACT 1MISSION Campaign page.

The link may not be live right now, but I will keep everyone updated when our campaign launches.  Hope you will be involved!
