Small Groups to Kick-Off in September

Straight Outta #2Schools in our area start back this week. Our summer calendar of events is now complete. Pretty soon everyone will fall back into the routine of school schedules, buses on the streets, homework assignments, Friday Night Lights, sounds of marching bands rehearsing and all the various things that the school year brings. The start of school means something pretty important in our student ministry: Small Groups!

While we aren’t the only youth ministry that does small groups, we love them! I look forward to seeing our students break off into their groups, reconnect with each other, talk about God’s Word and share life together. Small Groups is one of the most important things we do because it provides a consistent opportunity for students to connect with each other, with adult leaders who care about them and with God and His Word.

We will launch our small groups for the 2015-2016 school year on September 13. Until then we are encouraging our students to commit to be involved. If you are a junior high or high school student at WCC, we want you in small groups. We will have cards available where you can commit to small groups or you can even sign up online.

We are looking forward to a great school year of small groups!

Support The Walk For Life 2015

Walk for Life 2015Each year the New Life Clinic in Wilmington, OH, sponsors the Walk For Life. It is a 5 Mile Walk/Run that is one of the main fundraisers for the center. The New Life Clinic upholds the sanctity of human life by ministering to the spiritual, emotional and physical needs of those involved in pregnancy related circumstances. It is a great ministry and the Walk for Life is a pretty easy way to support the work they do.

Each year our church encourages our members to participate. This year, we are encouraging our students to get out and walk! All you have to do is sign up, sponsor up and show up! Pretty easy. We would love to see a group of our students come out on April 18 to participate. Registration starts are 8:00 am and the walk begins at 9:15 am. If you are part of our student ministry, sign up in the Atrium at the Walk for Life table, grab a brochure to sponsor up and the show up to walk.

Since I’m walking (along with my wife and Max), we’d love for you to sponsor us! If you are in Wilmington, hit us up personally (unless of course you are walking). If you are outside of Wilmington (or even local) and want to support us in the walk, fill out the contact form below and we can get you on board.

Hope to see our students from WCC be a part of The Walk!

Fill out this form below to let me know you want to support The Walk and I’ll get back to you!

Small Groups…’cause we’re all a little weird

Small Group wierd copyAs the school year gets started this week, we are gearing up for one of the main components of our IMPACT Student Ministry – small groups!

We love small groups because we have seen how effective they can be in helping students develop relationships with one another and together grow in a relationship with Jesus. We have students who are now married or off to college that still stay in touch with small group leaders. We also have current students who look forward to the start of small groups each school year. Small groups are a good tool to build relationships and help grow our spiritual maturity.

Our push for small groups this year is “join a small group . . . ’cause we’re all a little weird.”  I’m grateful to my friends at DownloadYouthMinistry.com for the video we are using.  Check it out below.

If you are an IMPACT student, you can sign up for small groups on-line. Our church website has a space for you to register.  If you haven’t done so, go sign up!

We’re looking forward to a great year of small groups!

Why Join a Small Group?

We kicked off small groups for the new school year this past weekend.  Like many student ministries and churches, we try to connect as many students as we can to a small group.  We’re always looking for ways to promote the concept of small groups and encourage students to be involved.

Josh Griffin at Saddleback posted this video as a promo for small groups. Funny take off of a current TV commercial.

Did You Sign Up Yet?

If you’ve been in youth ministry in any capacity in the church, you know that getting students (and adults for that matter) to sign up for events or commit to go to something is always a chore.  I told one of our students just yesterday that I usually hear who is not going long before I get the commitment of students who are.

Today, I saw this creative flowchart on Josh Griffin’s “More Than Dodgeball” blog.  It is a good way to remind students to sign up and I definitely will be using something similar to it in the future.
